ELECTORAL GOVERNANCE IN TIMES OF CRISIS IN THE SAHELO-SAHARAN STATES:

The Sahelo-Saharan states are facing a multitude of unprecedented crises since 2012 to the present. To ensure the optimal functioning of the State and meet the development and security challenges in these countries, the holding of peaceful, transparent and credible elections is essential. However, this was not always the case. Electoral conflicts triggered following contested elections in the countries of the Sahelo-Saharan region are not new phenomena. They are an extension of the security crisis experienced by these states. They are part of the continuity of a decade of crisis, which finds its origins in various internal causes, some of which crystallized around the contestation of the electoral results, causing in most cases unrest and violent demonstrations always weakening no longer these institutions. It should be noted that these electoral crises were exacerbated by an unstable regional context; they are also sources of political tensions which contribute to weakening the legitimacy of the power resulting from these elections.
